Blind viewing test: how often may an overlay slip before viewers notice?

The white disc in the black square is part of the video. The orange ring is an overlay drawn by the player, and it belongs exactly around the disc. In each trial the ring may be drawn one video frame off on a small share of the frames, so that for an instant it slips off the disc. How often that happens differs from trial to trial and you are not told. In some trials it does not happen at all.

Watch the ring. After each trial, say whether you saw it slip.

This is a synthetic target. It has hard edges, moves at a constant 19 pixels per frame and has nothing else to look at. Real game footage moves slower and faster, has motion blur and much more going on, so the threshold for real game footage may differ from what this test finds.
